Sendai's Summer Party

On August 7 I schlepped my Sony NEX-5R and tripod up to the big city of Sendai and spent the morning recording scenes of the Tanabata Festival. This short video (1 minute and 50 seconds) will give you an idea of what the central arcades of Sendai are like during the city's most ambitious and famous yearly summer event.

Sendai Tanabata Festival 2013

Tanabata runs for three days, and this year more than two million visitors showed up to take in the atmosphere and show their support for the post-disaster Tohoku region. There's more to the festival than is shown in the movie ... fireworks and other highights ... but time was limited so I concentrated on the colorful "fuki-nagashi" decorations that are the symbols of the event.
